T430 and sound card query [Solved]

Post by peterw19 »

The Lenovo T430 (and T450) seem to have a considerable fan-base on this forum. I'm thinking of joining the club. The one question which I've not been able to get an answer to elsewhere is the sound card. Does it support 'Monitor of Built-in Audio Analogue Stereo'? (Seems to be the equivalent of Windows 'Stereo Mix'). This feature is visible in the PulseAudio Volume Control, but not in any other sound control program which I've looked at. It is very useful for recording streaming audio such as podcasts, for listening later/offline. Does anyone know the answer to this question? I appreciate it might vary between different models, but it would be reassuring to know before I commit myself.

The answer...... I bought a T430. The stereo mix does not appear on Windows, but the Monitor is available in Pavucontrol. So I can record direct from stereo mix if I set up all the default choices correctly. However, that causes a problem with Skype - I may need to open a new discussion for this.
