[SOLVED] Screen flickers white when pressing up or down

Post by quincy »

https://youtu.be/NTsKHsbyPV0

As shown in the video, the screen flashes white if I go up/down too many times or if I pressed backspace in a blank name. I didn't experienced this on Manjaro Cinnamon and other distros, so maybe it only occurs in Mint. If so, how could I disable it?

Have a look to see if there is a driver recommended for your graphic card and if so install it.
At present you're using the nouveau open-source driver and the nvidia driver should probably be better and stop this tearing.

I have installed the nvidia driver yesterday, I'm sorry but how do I enable and activate it?

installed the nvidia driver
You probably should not have installed that driver. If it were me I would Timeshift back and then start Driver manager to select a Nvidia driver. But if you don't want to Timeshift back you can probably still start Driver manager and select a Nvidia driver.

Welcome to the forum, quincy

I am confused as to why people are telling you to install the Nvidia driver when the data you posted indicates it is already installed and running. There is nothing more you need to do to activate the Nvidia driver.

Graphics:
Device-1: NVIDIA GP107 [GeForce GTX 1050 Ti] driver: nvidia v: 470.63.01
bus ID: 1f:00.0 chip ID: 10de:1c82
Display: x11 server: X.Org 1.20.11 driver: nvidia
unloaded: fbdev,modesetting,nouveau,vesa resolution: 1920x1080~60Hz
OpenGL: renderer: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti/PCIe/SSE2 v: 4.6.0 NVIDIA 470.63.01
direct render: Yes

Does this happen only when you are running OBS or does it happen all the time?

I think there may be a setting in Nvidia X Server Settings which might help with this issue, but I can not recall the name right now.

Whoops!
My apologies, I read that quite wrongly having seen nouveau in the inxi output text.

This all stems from never having had an nvidia card to work with and seeing nouveau mentioned I assumed that was the one being used. WRONG!!

Sorry for the confusion.

So I looked into the accesibility options in the system settings and I realized that the visual alerts is enabled by default. Disabling that solved my problem, so it's not about driver. Either way, thank you guys for the help.
