Memory
I am running out of memory. How do I make more memory by erasing programs that I never use?
EDIT: Sorry, I should have said that I am running out of disk space. How do I get rid of programs I don't ever use, and how do I get more disk space?

Re: Memory
If you are not using a program then it won't be using memory..
Are you sure that you don't mean that you are running out of disk space??
Either way you need to supply some technical detail with your request...

Re: Memory
yes for a definitive reply more info is needed!
But it seems to me the most common cause of loosing disk space is leaving timeshift on it's default settings.
Open time shift and see how many snapshots you have, only a few should be necessary.
Another useful command that may help is this.
The synaptic package manager can also remove programs.

Re: Memory
You can simply uninstall apps or disable on startup so that they won't use ram when you boot.

Yes, sorry, I am running out of disk space.
Re: Memory
Then you need to run something like Disk Analyzer to discover what is using up your space.
The usual culprits for using space are :
Timeshift backups
Old Kernels
Log files - usually error related.
However you just could have allocated insufficient space in the first place.
As you have supplied no technical detail we have no way of knowing..

Re: Memory
RIH, where do I find Disk Analyzer?
Re: Memory
RIH, I found "Disk Usage Analyzer". I ran it. But so what. It doesn't tell me if those items are necessary or anything. It is meaningless right now for me.
Re: Memory
It tells you what is taking up space on your disk..
If you copy that output back here in your next post then I am sure someone can advise..
But system information is what you most need to share, otherwise everyone is just guessing in the dark..

Re: Memory
I get the list and the picture of my home folder, but I see no way to copy it (and then paste it). There is no way to select it. I see the "Save Screenshot", but I see no way to turning that into something that I can show or list here.
Re: Memory
You need to take & save a screenshot.
That can be added to your next post either by using a hosting site like IMGUR or attaching it directly via the Attachments tab at the bottom of the post input form.
There is a size limit on attaching a picture directly via Attachments, there is no size limit using a picture hosting site..
