Post by imxaditya21 »

Hello there!
So, When I put password in cinnamon login screen(GUI), the screen goes black for a while and takes time to load the desktop.
Then a searched a little and found this command

Code: Select all

systemd-analyze blame
which shows:

Code: Select all

I've disabled networkd-dispatcher.service and snapd.service after searching about them.

Question is what more can I disable to make the login time shorter without putting my laptop in danger.

UPDATE: I removed snap following the instructions given here viewtopic.php?t=328590

hey and welcome to the forum and linux mint. can you run this command in the terminal and post the outcome of it

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxxrzc0
it will give us your system information.

10.657s snapd.service you could disabled if you have not done that. By default linux mint does not support saps so you must have installed a snap sometime.

second run this command aswell

Code: Select all

systemd-analyze
.

good luck

Hey again 26 sec is not super slow on a 5400rpm mechanic disk , suggestion replace that disk with a ssd is probably the simplest and cheapest way to improve it.
could also add some more ram if you like even 4 gb of ram is usable in linux. Your machine can support up to 16 gb ddr3 https://www.dell.com/community/Inspiron ... -p/6184842

another suggestion if you don't want to replace the harddrive is meaby try the mate or xfce desktop in linux mint they don't use that much ram and cpu from the computer, as cinnamon does.
Did you run the

Code: Select all

systemd-analyze blame
before you removed snapd? because in that analyses there is a snapd service that is running and takes about 10 sec to startup 10.657s snapd.service

good luck

I did, in the very beginning, that's why I removed It. But now another problem is

Code: Select all

systemd-analyze blame

As you can see the new problem is at top :

Code: Select all

56.604s apt-daily.service
.
I found a workaround for this at https://askubuntu.com/a/897432.

I'll monitor for some time, and if satisfied, will mark this topic Solved!

You can just disable that service and run the function manually ("sudo apt update" or Software mgr, synaptic, etc):

Code: Select all

sudo systemctl disable apt-daily.service
Please edit your original post title to include [SOLVED] if/when it is solved!
