Apparently there is a size limit at termbin. Now try the same command, but without the -a option:

Code: Select all

ls -lR /home/admin1 | nc termbin.com 9999
And while we are here, do this one too:

Code: Select all

ls -lR /home/admin1/Documents | nc termbin.com 9999

We expect both Gparted and Disks to show all your partitions, even if they are unallocated space. If you know your disk sizes you can calculate if there is any missing space that is not shown in Gparted and Disks.

For some people it makes sense to use most of your disk space - for backup, if nothing else.
Here are my disks:

Code: Select all

$ df -h | grep sd
/dev/sda1 469G 223G 222G 51% /
/dev/sdb2 7.3T 6.7T 233G 97% /media/mike/bu1
/dev/sdc1 11T 9.5T 805G 93% /media/mike/main1
/dev/sdd2 3.7T 3.4T 330G 92% /media/mike/mapbu1

My 1000 gb disk
936 gb are free.
20 gb apparently taken up by the linux mint OS
There's still 93.5 gb taken up by unknown.

The rootMX19 drive is also a mystery.
491.2 gb total
32.5 gb are used
458.7 gb free.
12.5 gb are taken up by unknown.

How do I solve the mystery.
Thank you.

Where are you getting that 20 GB figure from? I think it is more likely that your OS is taking the whole 32.5 GB on the rootMX19 drive. Generally people keep their data in /home/YOU/ If you look in there and it is empty, then the OS is probably taking up the whole 32.5 GB.

It's possible, but unlikely, that you accidentally moved your files to another location on the same partition.

You should backup your files. If you don't you will lose the data some day. I say it is best to lose them earlier, instead of later. Backup well and you probably won't lose the data.

That's about a decade old, operating systems have grown since then.
