Have you tried booting from the windows boot CD or the recovery partition and choosing the repair option? That's what I had to do after installing Mint 7.

What does the error say? Maybe there is a way for you to burn the content of the recovery partition from Mint to a CD, if that's even possible. I've heard of people doing that from Windows. IMO it's preferable to have a standalone boot CD.
