Installing without DVD or USB stick?
Hi, I'm new here. I'm going to install Linux mint for the first time in a few days.
Is there any way that I could install mint without a DVD/USB stick? Just asking.
Sorry if you guys don't understand my post.

EasyBCD something like that. https://neosmart.net/EasyBCD/
You can easily "iso boot" with grub, but I'm not sure you can get grub installed with an easy Windows tool directly, with no usb/dvd. In that method you just download the iso to any place on your hard drive, and then edit the grub menu enough to where you can point it directly to the iso, and grub has the built-in iso-boot feature.
I've used that method and it's easy. I'm not sure about how it goes with easybcd, but I think basically the same thing, maybe someone is familiar enough with it, or there's an obvious guide. But you should be able to install that tool, download the mint iso and edit the configuration enough in easybcd to where it will "iso boot" for you, and after that it's smooth sailing, -maybe.

Why would you want to? Using an .ISO on a USB3.0 stick is so easy.

Re: Installing without DVD or USB stick?
Yes - - it is possible to Boot from an ISO file,
you do need Grub version 2.0 at least, to be Installed, though.

Hi Pierre,
Do you find this way is easier than installing via USB?

Re: Installing without DVD or USB stick?
there is -- but you have said that you have Grub 2.x Installed
which implies, that you have some Linux System, up & running.
so .. therefore .. do you have an Dual_Boot system ?
or are you just using the Windows System ?.
but once you set this method up,
then you simply place any New ISOs into your "install" folder,
and then modify the Grub Boot Menu, to include the New ISO . .

it is about the same amount of effort, that is needed,

then you simply place any New ISOs into your "install" folder,
and then modify the Grub Boot Menu, to include the New ISO . .

Re: Installing without DVD or USB stick?
First time, want to have a look and a play? Why not install virtualbox and install mint in a VM. You can install direct from the iso.StwrtChftY3sLnsTTN0 wrote: ⤴Fri Oct 15, 2021 3:25 pm Hi, I'm new here. I'm going to install Linux mint for the first time in a few days.

Re: Installing without DVD or USB stick?
it's an bit unsure if WSL 2.x will work with this method, though.
- - see if those Tutorials will work, or not.
otherwise, install VirtualBox, as suggested by AndyMH

I've got that method working on both LinuxMint & with an Windows System.
