[SOLVED] How do I connect my phone via USB...
...to linux mint cinnamon? When I plug in my android phone to a usb2/3 port, it used to come up in the file menu (win10) Now it doesn't. Well, it got listed once but it was illegal to there or something like that (I can't make that happen again pfft!). Since, I unplugged the phone and plugged back into a couple different ports but it doesn't show in files? It should come up in Devices right? Is there a patch for this? Thanks

Well, this probably works fine if I had USB tethering on my phone account but I donh't. It's a paid plan. I can turn the mobile hotspot on but not tethering.

Re: [] How do I connect my phone via USB...
I don't want to take this discussion down a false trail.... but exactly why do you want to connect your mobile phone to your Mint computer?
If you are aiming to use your mobile phone to enable a connection to the internet, then I guess the guidance on tethering in Pjotr's website will be helpful. I have never needed this tethering arrangement so cannot offer advice on that.
But.... if you are trying to connect your mobile phone to your computer via a USB port and cable in order to - for example - transfer files, photos or other material from one to the other, then of course you will need to be able to "see" and explore what is in your mobile device by looking at Mint's file manager (Cinnamon uses Nemo - I have Mint XFCE and Thunar). So you need to have the phone show up as a connected device.
Now here's the point (and it's something I learned from experience). Not all USB cables are the same. Some of the USB cables that come with mobile phones are only charging cables. They are not wired or configured to enable data transmission. So if you happen to connect using one of these charging-only USB cables, then the computer won't "see" the phone as a device. You have to use a USB connection which will transmit data. Normally when you connect an Android phone to a computer with the right sort of USB cable, you should get a pop-up on the phone screen saying you have a USB connection and asking you to select whether to use it only for charging, or for the transmission of files/pictures/data.
So.... check your USB cable - or try another one...

Make sure you're using a data cable and not a simple charge only cord.
Also after detection the files are hidden while the phone's screenlock is on.

Everything in life was difficult before it became easy.

My phone comes up with the allow transfer window. But my mates phone doesn't. It comes up with a "charging phone" window, that has a "more options" button. You then have to select "file transfer", before you see the phone files system on the computer.
And here, the phone is mounted in /media, not /devices.

Re: [] How do I connect my phone via USB...
Excuse me if I have missed the intent in this thread.
It appears you want to Transfer Files from/to the Cellphone from your PC, is that correct?
If so, there is a much easier solution that does NOT require a bunch of fancy USB cable permissions.
Go to the Google Play Store and install
Pay their small fee so that it will work as intended.
Here are two screens that show what it looks like from the PC desktop
I omitted that it allows you to select
This image is where I have scrolled down and selected the DCIM folder.
at this point, you can open sub-folders and click on the check-boxes to download files Singly, or as a Zip.
It will download Folders also.
here is the first screen you see on the phone, this has to be done 1st, before the PC can see the phone.
This is the OK screen
and this is the Screen that tells you what IP address to use and Port #, it also happens to be the screen to use to EXIT the cellphone's app.
Now, at this point, I have a NewTab Icon setup with that IP address, so it is an easy thing for me to click and I get instant access to the phone.
my router has 5G WiFi, and the files transfer so fast, they are almost downloaded before I get my hand off the mouse.
none of that slow, draggy USB speed crap.

Internal Storage or SDcard
of which I chose SDcard as that is the Default location for my pictures to be saved to.This image is where I have scrolled down and selected the DCIM folder.

I asked the same question a while back here...

I found a program that is free that works very well. I have no problems with it and I use it everyday. It's linked in my topic. Not as fancy but it gets the job done great.
