Logged out when opening folders

Hi, i seem to be having an issue with opening folders that contain large video/audio files. Every time i click on the directory Linux mint shuts down and i get logged out. I will also add that i did not acquire these videos from shady websites, so im suspecting it may just have to do with the file size. any fixes? thanks.

MATE edition? Last time around I suggested that it was probably the thumbnailer that had the desktop crash but the person never got back to us. I also don't know MATE but if indeed that edition see if the issue goes away when disabling "previews" or "thumbnails" or whatever your graphical file manager calls it.

If not MATE no idea.

To clarify, I am using up to date Linux mint cinnamon

Tried, but I can not reproduce (on a folder with an 861M .mkv as the largest at least). No idea then.

Try turning off thumbnails.

Every time i click on the directory

Do you mean when you single click on the directory on the left side of Nemo?
What happens when you double click on the directory on the right side of Nemo?
Maybe we should get an ls -la of the directory if that is practical.
