Input of mouse and keyboard randomly freezes on laptop [SOLVED]

Post by polemaster1973 »

Newbie here.

I'm on a Maingear Vector Pro with a Ryzen 9 CPU and an NVIDIA RTX 3070 mobile, I've noticed that after almost everytime I'm idle after I first start the system up, the mouse decides to randomly freeze on me for like up to two seconds. Sometimes even the keyboard would freeze on me as well, does anyone have any suggestions on how to potentially mend this issue, or is this a normal thing?

EDIT: It actually persists throughout the entire time I'm using the system.

Output of inxi -Fxxxz:

- I do not know.
- You can always ask the manufacturer.
- You can check to see if it is ACPI related
But I'm not too advanced to write how to do it . And I have too little time.
Anyway
1. You can read
https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Power_ ... _hibernate
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PowerManagement
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BootOptions
https://newbedev.com/booting-ubuntu-wit ... -parameter
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingACPI
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_ ... _Interface
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/buglist.cgi ... lution=---

2. Check logs, find ACPI errors if exist
Example about logs https://linuxhandbook.com/journalctl-command/
If error exist, find something on internet

3. If you know how to turn on ACPI and how to restore afterwards. You can check
Nicely described. If there is no English language, try to change it (top right - blue text)

No, that freezing is not normal. I don't see anything wrong with your inxi output.

Okay, I've just did what the article said. Unfortunately though my BIOS really doesn't have any settings besides the boot options and the settings for the lights. I've recently tried to disable the thing in the settings where it automatically restarts Cinnamon when it uses too much ram. I'm now back on this computer and apparently the freezes were still occuring, just very rare now. I'm gonna see how everything plays out with this updated firmware. Thanks for your input.

Probably no help here, but I am curious if the system did the little freezes right from day one, when you first installed it ?

If not, then how much, and WHAT have you installed ?

I ask that because,

Code: Select all

Info:
  Processes: 375 Uptime: 4m
That's ± about / almost twice as many processes as a fresh install would have. Again I don't know, but seems logical that 175-200 (seems like a lot) extra processes would have some effect ?

I've installed Wine, TLP, and a few basic games (Solitaire, the Tetris-like game, and SuperTuxKart). By the way, my iMac is running Linux Mint as well with 222 processes running, and I've never had an issue with that freezing up on me. You don't think it could be an issue with TLP? If so, how much so?

Re; TLP, to be honest I do not know, but it is a possibility...to save power, maybe it is doing something...weird ?
The rest of the packages seem mundane enough.
See, your other computer is running with only 222 packages, which is 150 less than the "problem" machine...why so many? Is interesting.
I'll follow along. But sorry to say I don't have the silver bullet.

Apologies for getting back to 'yall so much later, I've just been really busy with the holidays and all that, anyway, turns out it was TLP that was causing the input freezing. Thanks to rickNS for hinting that. ;) However, I have another problem, whenever I do something like install software or updates, or simply even looking at the pages in the Software Manager for programs, the temperatures skyrocket! like from about 50C to about 60C, or even over 72C! I'll make a new topic on that soon if I need to, I'm still new here after all, till then, this issue with TLP is solved, by uninstalling...
