Trying Linux Mint 20.2 Cinnamon 64-bit from directions for a USB boot drive.
I verified with sha256sum.txt, pretty cool for this noob. My 480 GB Sandisk USB turned into 2 GB, a little worried there. It was renamed Linux Mint 20.2 Cinnamon 64-bit, but the directory seems to contain good files.
Anyway when I try booting my laptop sounds an alarm and I have to shut it down. I did select the boot USB from the startup menu.
I used Startup Disk Creator in Ubuntu.
I'd like to try Mint as my wife would never survive Ubuntu.

Don't, when burning an iso it puts an ISO9660 file system on it (same as used for CDs). You can reformat it back to a normal drive - put a new partition table on it and then a new partition(s). If that fails install mkusb or use dd to wipe the first MB of the drive.CountHackula wrote: ⤴Thu Oct 28, 2021 3:55 am My 480 GB Sandisk USB turned into 2 GB, a little worried there.
What are you trying to achieve? Is that 480GB a stick or drive? Are you trying to burn the ISO to a stick to install mint on another drive?
I have heard that ubuntu's startup disk creator will only burn ubuntu isos (could be wrong). Try something else like unetbootin or etcher, or if windows try rufus (you need dd mode).

Re: Boot disk sounds laptop alarm
Just booting Mint from a 480GB USB stick. I didn't see a/g in the instructions about partitioning the SSD. But I can try. What are you trying to achieve? Is that 480GB a stick or drive?
Ya, maybe it's only for Ubuntu...I'll try another like unetbootin or etcher...Hmmm I don't find these in Activities. I can only run Ubuntu currently.
I could partition and try it again. Actually it does look like 2.2 GB for Partition 1,Bootable, and 478 GB free space.
Not a fan of what the name turned out to be and can't find how to rename the SSD...
Renaming with disk got an error...

Re: Boot disk sounds laptop alarm
You don't need to partition the drive if using 'erase and install' or 'install alongside'.
Installing etcher

unetbootin

What name? Do you mean the label you gave a partition. Not a fan of what the name turned out to be and can't find how to rename the SSD...
