Mint Freezes randomly and doesnt respond to anything[SOLVED]

Post by harambe »

Hello Everyone, it might be low tier question, and i have tried few things like inserting hotkey (alt+F2>r>enter). But when mint freezes i have no other option than to restart it directly from the switch.
i use Virt manager, QEMU, virtualbox, vmware. and normal browsing on firefox multiple tabs along with teams and mailspring.
It is my only OS on my ssd, no other OS i have.
even now while copy pasting the system info mint froze, how can i recitfy it? what am i doing wrong? any help would be appriciated.
thank you in advance

UPDATE: I think i solved it via disabling C6 state in bios and rebooting the system. Since then no random freeze or restart. i hope it helps.

Welcome to the forum, harambe.

Freezing issues are, unfortunately, common with 1000 series Ryzens. Quite a few people have found success in changing the PSU Idle Control setting in BIOS/UEFI to Typical Current Idle which is the first of several suggestions in this link Fix system freezing trouble with AMD Ryzen CPU's. Maybe it will help you as well.

Thanks for swift reply.
I am not sure i am doing right or not but i just upgraded the kernel version to 5.13 after reading it here on forum, who had freezing issue.
I will update my answer depending on, if freezing happens or not otherwise i will do as you have guided!

If you run uname -r in a terminal and it indicates you are running the 5.13 kernel, then you probably upgraded correctly. Let us know if it clears the issue for you.

Uname does states kernel version 5.13.. But the problem persists.

i tried the guide with changing the PSU work mode settings in UEFI, but maybe i am unable to find it in or my UEFI doesnt have that mode.

i use MSI B350 gamin plus motherboard.

I found this thread Ryzen C6 State, Sleep, Power supply common current idle... is it this simple? where I see a post which says
Dark_Alchemist ·3y

Here is AMD's last response to me about an hour ago on a weird issue I have had across two motherboard where the only thing that has remained the same was the CPU and Ram. When I say they are the only I mean they are the only as everything else has been replaced.

Thank you for your response

I understand you are facing instability issue with ryzen 1600 procesosr while you are working in your system.

I request you to install all the recommended updates from the windows and disable all the power saving options in the and check the progress.

Also, please disable C6 power state in the BIOS settings and check the progress.

Thanks for contacting AMD.

AMD is telling me to turn C6 off. I had it off on the old defunct GB motherboard and on the new MSI I haven't touched anything so I bet the C6 is on.
That is a bit different from the original post in that thread, but maybe some of those ideas will help.

Both may have helped. If you feel the issue is now resolved, please go to your first post in this topic, click the pencil icon, and add [SOLVED] to the title so others know you are no longer seeking help on this issue.
