[SOLVED] System time keeps reverting back? Non-duel boot system.

Post by mrcp24 »

Yesterday I took apart my laptop to apply fresh/better thermal grease to the cpu. I have been dealing with over heating problems but no longer. Although I ended up taking the whole computer apart into all it's individual pieces out of curiosity. Then I put it all back together and turned on the power. It took awhile for the screen to turn on and made me worry so I held the power button and shut down the system. Tried again to boot the system and this time it came to a message/error about something I don't remember what it was, about some 3 letter word that starts with a "C" and that it was not recognized and the system will reboot. And now everything works just fine, except for one thing.

After every reboot the time and date revert back to some day and time in September, and I have to manually (every reboot) correct this in the GUI date and time.

I think because I took the system apart this could have something to do with the BIOS but I don't know. I do have a timeshift snapshot if using that will fix this?

Did you happen to remove the button battery that powers the CMOS when you were taking everything apart? If so, perhaps it didn't get reinstalled properly.

No I don't remember running into a button battery on the system board or anywhere else.

There is also the possibility of the CMOS battery inadvertently getting loose (loose contacts).

So I ended up trying to restore my system from my timeshift snap shot and this worked so I know it wasn't a hardware issue.
