[SOLVED] Mint Cinnamon 20.2 Edge updating to 20.3

Hi there,

when I update now after a fresh install from the Mint 20.2 Cinnamon Edge version to 20.3 do I get in the future the newest kernel updates like in the Edge version? Or should I wait, until a 20.3 Edge version is coming out?
My new pc needs newest drivers for Creative Soundblaster AE5 plus (problematic) and nvidia 2080 rtx super.

you may get, just the normal update Linux Kernel(s)

and so, it may pay to wait, until the LM20.3 Edge come available.

How do I know, that I upgrade to 20.3 Edge and not to the regular 20.3?

Provided you upgrade from LM 20.2 (Edge) to LM 20.3 (Edge) in-place, i.e. through Update Manager => Edit => Update to Linux Mint 20.3, your installed kernel series will be preserved.

As far as I know the upgrade will not install an older kernel, but will retain the newer that you have already installed.

Yes, they will be preserved.
In the System Report Manager there is now the Option: Upgrade to Mint 20.3 Una
But there is no 20.3. Edge mentioned. Is this also the Edge version? Are they the same?
I mean, will I have with this upgrade in the future the edge kernels or only the regular 20.3. ones?

Hello, Henry11.

LM 20.3 (normal, no Edge) and LM 20.3 Edge differ only in the kernel series, which the installation ISO's bring along.
Again, Update Manager => Edit => Update to Linux Mint 20.3 will update your LM 20.2 Edge to LM 20.3 Edge preserving the installed kernel series.
Nothing will be downgraded.
