ok so 3 systems went from around the 5.4.0-74 -5.4.0-88 series
running cinnamon desktop amd ryzen 5 2600 idle temp 35-37 degrees /
running cinnamon /xfce desktop amd ryzen 5 3400G idle temp 35-37 degrees
running xfce desktop amd FX 8320 idle temp 35-37 degrees /
5.11 series and 5.13 series
- cinnamon desktop amd ryzen 5 2600 idle temp 41-45 degrees AMD Ellesmere series 8gig graphics card idle 47-50 degrees
- cinnamon /xfce desktop amd ryzen 5 3400G idle temp 41-45 degrees
- xfce desktop amd FX 8320 idle temp idle temp 41-45 degrees AMD Ellesmere series 8gig graphics card idle 33 degrees
on starting up something like steam ( just launching, not playing the game yet )
amd ryzen 5 3400G hits 55 degrees
playing a game like scrap mechanic hitting 107 degrees and locking up ( but not shutting down )

can anyone make sense of this???
i might have to down grade the kernels back to the 5.4.074 - 88 series because its been the only change made other than upgrades

kernel changing idle temps???

Yes, I also have Ryzen 5 3400G and I'm on 5.4 kernel without any problems. Those other kernels are a bit too new for our CPU.

do you know how high up the 5.4 series you are?
because i found i started having issues around the 5.4.0-92 - 5.4.0-94 version hence i why i tried a newer 5.11 and 5.13 kernel series
- slowing down of apps launching
- browser slower
- browser required a cache, cookie and history clean up ( everything deleted /begin-ing of time)
- steam game launch issues
