Automount troubles

Post by bromax »

I've just upgraded to 20.3 and I've run into a mounting problem that I think is a permission issue for the usb and dvds. Mint recognizes the usb devices and the dvds but I am not authorized to mount them. Can someone help me figure out how to set permissions to automount the usb drives and dvd? I'm open to other bits of advice regarding my old system. Thank you in advance.

Welcome to the forum, Brother Max.

Was this working properly before you upgraded? If so, what version were you using when it was working?

I was using 20.2 and no troubles. I can't say I paid attention to the kernel though. I can mount drives (I'm particularly thinking of hot swappable drives) manually but it's be nice to not have to...

Check the output of dmesg (command is, I believe sudo dmesg nowadays) when plugging in one of the devices that no longer automounts. You might catch an error message or something.

The "automount feature" itself is handled by udev rules. I believe they tend to live in /etc/udev/rules.d; though at the moment, I don't have a Linux machine to hand. I can check after I get home, but that'll be after work.
