[SOLVED] Error installing software

Post by wawrz558 »

I recently installed Linux Mint 20.2 Cinnamon 64-bit and am getting this error every time when I try to install software using the Software Manager. Sometimes, I just click OK and the particular software seems to still work but for some software, for example, filezilla, it does not seem to function properly. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Code: Select all

installArchives() failed: Selecting previously unselected package filezilla.

What program are you trying to install?

Lets get the history established. You are now running LM 20.3:
Distro: Linux Mint 20.3 Una
But you installed LM 20.2 before that and then upgraded??
If your Software Manager ever worked correctly maybe a Timeshift is warranted.

I first installed 20.2 and got an error every time I tried to install software. VLC seems to still work but Filezilla does not. Yesterday, the Update Manager would lock up and would not close. I thought maybe 20.3 would work better, so I updated from 20.2 to 20.3 but still have the same errors. I previously have been using 18.2 for a few years without any issues. 18.2 also seemed faster. Thank you for your help.

I think I solved the problem. I found that my grup-probe file was empty so I copied and pasted the grup-probe file from LM 18.2 into the corresponding directory for LM 20.3. Now i don't get the error and am able to install software.
