Welcome to the forum, johnny2001.

There are newer kernels available in Update Manager. Maybe that will help.

Instructions for upgrading to the 5.13 kernel:
  • Open Update Manager.
  • Select View > Linux Kernels and click Continue.
  • Make sure 5.13 is selected on the left panel and then click the top-most option on the right panel. An "Install" button will appear.
  • Install the kernel and then reboot for it to become active.

Upgrading seems to break several things like internet and pulseaudio fails to even load, won't even let me reload it.

I was not expecting to hear that. I am not familiar with that PC manufacturer, so I do not know what might have caused that to happen.

That is the same kernel as in the Mint Edge ISO. Try a live session with the Linux Mint 20.3 "Una" - Cinnamon (Edge, 64-bit) ISO which has the 5.13 kernel and see if it works.

If you have not already gone back to the prior kernel, you can do so by bringing up the grub menu, select the Advanced Options, and then select the desired kernel. If you do not normally see grub menu, repeatedly tap the escape key during boot to bring up the menu. See this post for how to edit grub to get the menu to show if you are having problems getting that to work.

Once you boot with the older kernel, you will want to remove the newer one because Mint automatically boots into the highest number kernel. You can remove the newer kernel in a manner similar to the way you installed it in Update Manager. Only this time, you will get a "Remove" button option when you click on the kernel.

yes, no sound from the live session, and when I install the edge version there is still no sound, I dont mind losing files since this was a fresh install anyway.

the computer came with windows pre installed and I went from windows 11 to linux mint and it did have sound using windows if this helps, I am not duel booting either.

trying to reload the audio card in bios does not help either, I have tried that several times.

The output you originally posted is showing the driver is installed.
Device-1: Intel driver: snd_hda_intel v: kernel bus ID: 00:0e.0

Have you checked to see if headphones work? Sometimes headphones work, but not the speakers. That is the only other idea which comes to mind.

We'll have to see if someone else has ideas.

Headphones do not work either, I really hope someone knows what is wrong

If you are not dual booting and I suspect neither are you using a virtual system, then how did you get Cinnamon to work at all?
Cinnamon 21.3 Thinkcentre M920Q + 2 Thinkpad T440p (modded) + Lenovo Y50-70 (all have VBs) + 2 PC NAS drives w XFCE21.2 + Win7 Starter-32bit on ASUS Atom (2011) [and a few others]

I went back through your inxi and found 3 inhibiters: Celeron: making your system very old and hard drive (HDD I'm sure): 58Gb, barely enough space for the operating system and a meagre 3.66Gb RAM. If you also want to add specialised memory hungry audio software you are looking for trouble.

Keep this laptop (if you must) for day to day things like net surfing and emails and buy a more modern machine. I have had many years experience with audio software and recommend i5 cpu, 500Gb SSD, 8Gb RAM at a bare minimum.

The Intel Celeron N4020 in this laptop was released in November 2019 which is just barely two years ago. This is a new laptop and not an old one.

This is not an old system, and you telling me to buy another system is not helpful, this is the laptop I have. https://gatewayusa.com/GWTN116-3.html

I only bought it to have a portable Linux machine, not anything fancy like playing games, that's what I have a windows machine for.

My apologies.
The fact remains that you will need specs as I mentioned to do any audio production work. On the other hand, if all you want to do is listen to audio, then I'm out of my depth.
One last thought: have you turned off the various Windows things in BIOS, like 'fast start'?

I have no interest in any audio production work, I just want to listen to audio, fast start is not enabled, out of curiosity I also disabled tpm2.0 and that didn't help either

Please provide the output of aplay -l
and while a song or video is playing on your computer, provide the output of pacmd list-sinks.
