Netflix Sound solved

Post by sevenmpd »

Since upgrading to 20.3 Ive found that the sound level on both Netflix and Prime hardly audible even when my laptop sound is at 100%, prior to installing 20.3 running 20.2 I had no sound issues at all. Anyone else had this issue or can suggest a solution ?
Thanks
H

Hi sevenmpd,

It would help to know more about your system setup. If you run "inxi -Fxzd" and "lsusb" from the console terminal prompt, highlight the results, copy and paste them back here, that should provide enough information.

Hi sevenmpd,

It is actually easier and better for us trying to help you to just highlight the text using your mouse in the console terminal window, then right click and select copy and then just click into your post reply and right-click and paste, see below.

It appears that your laptop has two audio devices.

How are you trying to view and listen to Netflix and Amazon Prime? If you are using a browser, which browser(s)?

You can try resetting the Pulse audio system which is safe to do.

Remove previous pulse audio settings: copy and paste the code below into a console terminal window, one line at a time.

Code: Select all

rm -v ~/.config/pulse/

Code: Select all

pulseaudio -k

Code: Select all

pulseaudio --start
Although the commands above reset your pulse audio, you can either restart your computer and Retry your Netflix and Prime, or just try Netflix and Prime without restarting. I would restart.

I do not have Netflix anymore, but I do have prime which worked fine in my Firefox and Waterfox with DRM enabled.

These are your results which I copied form your attached document from your last reply. Now we can easily see your system information.

You could also try another web browser like Brave to see if there's any improvement.

Hi sevenmpd,

You are welcome...

As was suggested, you can and should try another browser to see if that helps with this. I always have a few browsers installed for many good reasons. If I go to a website and have any issues using Firefox or a Firefox type browser like Waterfox, etc... then I will try Chrome or a Chrome - Chromium type browser like Brave and visa-versa.

You might also consider installing pulse audio volume control and Qasmixer related applications from the "Synaptic Package Manager (SPM)" to see which of your audio devices is being used and perhaps trying the other one and or adjusting various audio properties.

Hope this helps ...

Sometimes I'll lower the volume specifically for something in Firefox, but then forget. I load up a mixer to look at the volumes, set it back to normal, and go about my business. I wonder if you have or something has changed the volume from Firefox specifically.

Notice how Firefox has its own separate volume for the Playback tab? Your mixer might have something similar. That's pavucontrol(1) (possibly known as 'Volume Control'), BTW.
I'm also Terminalforlife on GitHub.

Sorry so long in replying heath issues I tried Brave no better however it would seem it's a common problem across streaming services. Termy got me thinking and I ended up installing a addon to Firefox an extra volume control to increase volume up to 600% (not a typo) in practice it's crap after 120% but thats enough to make listening more comfortable so thanks to all for replys
