[SOLVED] Patchy internet connection since updating to 20.3 Una

Post by PringleBeagle »

Hello, hoping someone can help.

I'm using Mint 20.3 Una, Cinnamon - I updated from Uma a couple of weeks ago.
Since then despite getting successful wifi connection tray notifications, there's no internet connection.
I managed to resolve it by rolling back via Timeshift a couple of times, but that no longer fixes the issue. I can't even use my phone to tether via USB - there's still no internet connection. I've temporarily managed to get online by booting from the installation USB, i.e., 20.2 Uma.
I have a Broadcom adapter, which I'm guessing might be part of the issue?

I've tried booting with previous kernels but this only makes things worse (wifi conections disappear completely)
My Timeshift doesn't include 20.2, as I guess it's been overwritten now? So I don't think I can downgrade.

OK, not sure if this is a full fix, but I just tried

Code: Select all

protonvpn-cli d
And internet connected!
I'll mark this as solved for the time being and hopefully it will hold after rebooting.

Update: Still working a day later. Found the solution here: https://www.reddit.com/r/ProtonVPN/comm ... nt/hty6gck. If others have ProtonVPN installed and having intermittent internet connectivity on Mint, it might be worth a try.
