Hello,
I'm currently using Linux Mint 20.3 on a HP Laptop and was wondering if I could enable fingerprint login.
Has anyone tried this and has some tips?
Thanks.

Re: Fingerprint Login
In my experience, not all fingerprint hardware will work or work right of the box the same way it works with Windows. The first step is going to be to find out what fingerprint hardware you have. If you post that, perhaps others here can chime in. I got mine working (sort of), but I found it very flakey (worked much better in Windows).
Here's what I have: 06cb:009a Synaptics, Inc. is my fingerprint reader. I figured that out from doing lsusb

Re: Fingerprint Login
I've looked at this topic before and that seems pretty typical. Everything I could find seems a bit flaky, Logging in is pretty important IMO so I'm not willing to put up with any flakiness there.
My new/old HP laptop has a fingerprint reader. I just went into the BIOS settings and disabled it. There's my solution.

Re: Fingerprint Login
I essentially did the same. I liked the puzzle of getting it working, but in my case, it rarely properly responded at login without multiple tries. I do wish that there was a super reliable external method of 2nd-factor hardware authentication that "just worked." I have yet to find that.
Re: Fingerprint Login
FWIW, I know of some cases HP and Dell business style laptops with fingerprint readers were sold with Linux preinstalled. Everything worked OOTB except the fingerprint reader.

Re: Fingerprint Login
So apparently, I have the "Bus 001 Device 002: ID 06cb:00bb Synaptics, Inc. " What should the next step be?Kendoori wrote: ⤴Tue Apr 12, 2022 6:28 pm In my experience, not all fingerprint hardware will work or work right of the box the same way it works with Windows. Re: Fingerprint Login
Best I can tell your device is not currently supported.
Re: Fingerprint Login
Does pkexec support fingerprint authentication if enabled in some config?
