Re: LM 20.3 Freezes Randomly

Here is a thread with several ideas to read, but this can be a very tricky one to solve. You may have to do some experimentation to find the problem. A common one I have noticed is track pads. Even though you are probably using a mouse, try turning "touchpad" off in settings. Also try a different mouse.

Welcome to the forum, wasi.

What version of Linux Mint did you install? I ask because you are not running the most recent kernel which is 5.13.0-41.

System:
Kernel: 5.13.0-27-generic x86_64 bits: 64 compiler: N/A
Desktop: Cinnamon 5.2.7 wm: muffin 5.2.1 dm: LightDM 1.30.0
Distro: Linux Mint 20.3 Una base: Ubuntu 20.04 focal

Some people who originally installed LM20.3 Edge ISO have run into issues described in this topic Una: Kernel 5.13.0-28 listed but not offered as update?.

I suggest making the changes described there and update your kernel to see if the freeze problem is still there. (Let us know if you have questions about what is described in the other topic.)

I would also recommend some housekeeping because your drive is getting full. That can impact performance and may cause temporary freezes.
Partition:
ID-1: / size: 172.02 GiB used: 148.02 GiB (86.0%) fs: ext4
dev: /dev/nvme0n1p5

Here are some tips How to Clean Linux Mint Safely.

Hi Guys,

Thank you for your responses to my issue.
Some people who originally installed LM20.3 Edge ISO have run into issues described in this topic Una: Kernel 5.13.0-28 listed but not offered as update?.
I did upgrade the kernel latest version. It has seemed to solve the problem over the last few days. Thank you for the other suggestions as well.

Just a side note ... I purchased a new PC in July 2020 and I set it up as a dual boot with Win10. I honestly think I've booted into Windows twice. I have loved Linux Mint so much I can't envision going back to Windows.

Thank you again.
