Mouse clicks stop responding

Post by MyFunnyName »

Same Problem here! But Mate Desktop on Mint 20.3. Regularly mouse click stops working. CTRL + ALT + F1 followed by CTRL + ALT + F7 fixes the problem most times. Problem started some months ago out of the blue. Maybe some kernel update? Switch my hardware in the meantime so I guess not hardware issue. Any new ideas on how to fix this. Is a kernel downgrade easy to do?

Re: Mouse/touchpad clicks stop responding

Post by kc1di »

Some time ago Mint changed from synaptics touchpad driver to Libinputs you may need to change back to synaptics this quote form the mint 20 release notes may be of help.
Touchpad drivers
The default touchpad driver in this edition is "libinput" (provided by the xserver-xorg-input-libinput package).

If you experience problems with it, you can switch to another driver called "synaptics" (provided by the xserver-xorg-input-synaptics package).

To know which driver is used by your input devices, run the following command:

grep -i "Using input driver" /var/log/Xorg.0.log

When both drivers are installed, "synaptics" takes priority.

To switch to the "synaptics" driver, install it with the command:

apt install xserver-xorg-input-synaptics

Then log out and log back in.

To go back to using "libinput", simply remove the "synaptics" driver:

apt remove xserver-xorg-input-synaptics

Then log out and log back in.

Note: You can also try installing the "evdev" driver (provided by the xserver-xorg-input-evdev).
As for kernel downgrades in not difficult got to the update manager in the system try click on View then Linux Kernels it will list all available Kernels select the one you want to install and reboot to that kernel.
