New .profile [Solved]
I accidentally deleted .profile. How would one regenerate it?

Yes. Open terminal from your menu and run this command:
That gets you back the default .profile file. Log out and log back in to activate.
cp -v /etc/skel/.profile ~

First question is, how did you delete?. In case of a graphical file manager you should find the file in the trash bin.

As you have a solution, it is not more of interest to investigate the sudden loss of the file. My guess: You did not delete it, but moved it to another place. (Or you circumvented the trash, but in this case you should know this.)
