Mouse scroll wheel acting weirdly <SOLVED>

Post by rbits »

When I scroll down with my scroll wheel, it moves down, but then sometimes will go up for a split second before going down again. Same problem when trying to scroll up, it will scroll down sometimes. It's very annoying, and it means it takes ages to scroll. This doesn't happen with my trackpad, just my mouse. I don't know if this is a driver problem or something else, I don't have another mouse to test it with right now. Does anyone know what the problem might be?

My guess is a hardware problem.

There are 2 tests possible:
In the live system
with another mouse

Yeah it's hardware, the scroll wheel mechanism has a geared clutch to give that tactile bump when you roll it back and forth. If when you let go of the wheel when it is between two positions or just on the threshold, sometimes it will trigger the up movement on screen before scrolling downwards or vice versa...
I’ll tell you a DNS joke but be advised, it could take up to 24 hours for everyone to get it.

Yeah it's a problem with the mouse. I thought it was Linux because it worked fine on my old windows laptop, but I guess it broke around the time I switched. Thanks
