[SOLVED] Suspend not working since last update

Post by Ellis Karanikolaou »

Suspend has stopped working since the update I got re linux-generic received on the 23/06/2022. Prior to that it was working correctly.

Running Mint 19 Mate ...

Anyone else recently started experiencing suspend issues.

When I select suspend it simply goes to screensaver mode. Previously it would save the machine state and power down.

Hello,
I have the exact same problem.
When I select suspend, it simply goes to screensaver mode.
When I close the lid of the laptop, it simply goes to screensaver.

However, in the settings, "when the lid is close" is set to "suspend".
I have to use pm-suspend in command line for this to work.

Thanks

The last poster has quite obviously a different problem, because (s)he uses a different version of Mint and a different desktop.

^^^ yes, that.

Plus the OP hasn't posted any particularly useful system info. Copy/paste the text output of inxi -Fxxxrz run in the terminal.

While you might think the problem is the same, your "last update" would not be the same as the OP of this topic because you are running a different version of Linux Mint so the source of the problem is very unlikely to be the same. Please create a new topic for your issue and make sure to include the information requested in Section 5 of READ: How To Get Help!.

I just had this pop up when trying to suspend after returning from screensaver mode after trying to suspend ... it doesn't pop up every time though.

BTW, here is a list of my recent updates. I notice that login and passwd were recently updated also, maybe that has some impact here also.

It wont let me shutdown either while logged in. Logs me out and puts me into the login screen. You can shutdown from there.

Clearly one of the up dates has broken something.

Any help appreciated.

In the lower left of this window is the word Details and a triangle. If that windows comes up again, click the triangle to see the details.

Do you normally have to enter a password when you boot your system?
Do you have your screensaver set to lock your system (ie. do you have to type a password to clear the screensaver from your screen)?

This is the 1:4.5-1ubuntu2.3 Changelog which is the update showing for your login package.

Here are more details ... via hibernate which generates this window consistently whilst suspend only sometimes.

See https://askubuntu.com/questions/1057987 ... entication re a similar problem. Everything points to some error with the update re login and the /usr/share/polkit-1/actions/org.freedesktop.login1.policy.

I have screensaver on with password, unset this, made no difference. Very Frustrating.

If you have a Timeshift snapshot from before the update, you can restore to it and update everything except the login-related items to verify if that is the problem. Looking at the changelog, I do not have any guesses why it is happening. Maybe someone else will have an idea and can help.

I have it working now.

What I had to do was use Driver Manager and change the driver in use from nvidia-driver-390 to nvidia-driver-470. It was working with the 390 driver until a recent update, but now requires 470 driver. In any case thanks for your help.

Good to hear this. Please go to your first post in this topic, click the pencil icon, and add [SOLVED] to the beginning of the title so others know you are no longer seeking help on this issue.
