Heard about something some time ago but can't remember what it was. Wouldn't be unheard of, but they all would have to take the test of time.

German Linux Mint community makes some versions with Lxde desktop, don't know if you mean things like this

Peppermint used to be based on Ubuntu with several Mint tools woven in, but they later moved to a Debian base.
