How come text file doesn't open with sudo gedit?

Post by pleasenoname »

How come " sudo gedit /ect/default/grub " does not open the grub text file, but it did on previous install a few days ago. After entry it asks for password and after typing password the cursor sits blinkingwith no username left of it. When the terminal is typed in it says, " GVfs metadata is not supported. Fallback to TeplMetadataManager. Either GVfs is not correctly installed or GVfs metadata are not supported on this platform. In the latter case, you should configure Tepl with --disable-gvfs-metadata. "

Howdy. Try this instead:

Code: Select all

gedit admin:///etc/default/grub
That is much better than using sudo to edit files.

You mean, aside from the typo and the fact that Mint doesn't use gedit?
Try mike's form of command, except replace gedit with xed.

Was this a Mint system? Then the "few days" must be near to 1000 or the "previous" version was since years outdated and without support.
