Not good...all I can say is try Timeshift or reinstall Mint. Of course, someone else might offer a better idea.

Not suggesting this solution, but it could be Python related as it was here: viewtopic.php?f=47&t=364459&hilit=mintinstall

Not that I know about .

There must be a way of checking if those are
OK .

Or: can I do a clean re-install of them ??

Hello Vilsen,

I had this exact same bug, and I reported it, but they told me that they cannot reproduce it.
https://github.com/linuxmint/mint21-beta/issues/164 I could not post any updates because they archived the repository right when I was testing.

What you need to do is install Flatpak: apt install flatpak If it's already installed, you might have to reinstall: apt reinstall flatpak

If you want to have Flatpak removed, and Software Manager to work correctly with Flatpak removed, you also have to remove gir1.2-flatpak-1.0 with apt remove gir1.2-flatpak-1.0.

Right now I have Flatpak removed and Software Manager working correctly. Here's what it says when I launch it:

Code: Select all

 ➜ mintinstall
MintInstall: Detected system architecture: 'x86_64'
No flatpak support, install flatpak and gir1.2-flatpak-1.0 and restart mintinstall to enable it.
Installer: User pkgcache is most recent, using it.
MintInstall: Deleting old screenshots
and it launches OK. This means the two problematic packages are flatpak and gir1.2-flatpak-1.0. They have to be either both installed, or both removed.

Technically it's an app store, the real software manager is synaptic package manager which is a graphical interface for the apt cli. Flatpak integration is enabled for simplicity of new users who want packages like Google Chrome or anything else cross-platform not in the traditional repositories. Be grateful snap isn't a thing too with Mint :)

Synaptic package manager is not affected by this as it will not ever support flatpak, snap or appimage.

I’ll tell you a DNS joke but be advised, it could take up to 24 hours for everyone to get it.

Because Software Manager offers Flatpak apps too.

If you don't want it, just remove both packages I mentioned above. That fixes the bug.

Technically, it's a graphical interface for at least APT. Note the case. It's highly unlikely (because it would be silly) that it uses apt(8) (or especially the apt script found in Linux Mint) for its core functionality, given apt(8) itself is a CLI frontend to various APT and related tools. What you and the other poster are talking about to is commonly referred to as a software center, hence most of the programs for them are simply named Software Center in the main menus of various distributions/DEs.

But it's all convoluted, so I don't blame you or anyone for any confusion!

All these questions and all time wasted......... I am doing a NEW clean install
of Mint Mate 21 on my new computer so all of
the old problems just doesnt matter anymore , but:

I have a SSD with mint mate 19 installed from my
old computer and all is working
except the network interface.

Is there any way of fixing this without internet access ?
Remember that the network interface
is not working so I cant access the internet.
