Bluetooth Issues in Linux Mint 21

Post by Material_Olive_2022 »

I am writing to ask if anyone has had Bluetooth connectivity issues in Linux Mint 21 - recently I tried to pair up my Bluetooth mouse but it did not connect. When I tried to connect the same Bluetooth mouse in Fedora 36 it worked first time. Has anyone else had such Bluetooth connectivity issues in Linux Mint 21?

I'm using an Acer Travelmate running LM19.3 with Blueman 2.0.5 and zero probs with my Logitech BT mouse. Same with LM20.3 Live but I can't get the mouse to work with LM21 Live. Bluetoothctl returns - No default controller available.

@Material_Olive_2022

What I have to say may not be relevant to you (unless you had trouble starting the bluetooth manager; to run that manager, or, er, try to, search 'bluetooth' in Mint's main menu). But what I have to say might help someone. So here I go.

On Mint 21 (Cinnamon) I found that the Bluetooth Manager would not start. Trying to run that manager (via Mint's menu) gave this error message:

Image

It turns out that the solution is: sudo systemctl enable --now bluetooth.

EDITED.

Thanks for your reply, I tried your suggestions but unfortunately no luck. Still can't find the BT controller. I was running LM21 from a USB key so "maybe" a full insto might download the appropriate drivers. I'll wait a bit before I update from 19.3 to 21. thanks.

I'm having problems too connecting to my bluetooth headset.

Sennheiser MOMENTUM 2

Works fine with LM 20.3, which I guess I have to boot back into now....
Can't live without music while coding!

Other devices are found, but not the most important and closest, my headset...
Image

It finds my phone as well, just not my headset

Did some more debug with my collegues.

One has Bose NC700 and that works fine.

Another has the same as me, but that also doesn't work. So some spesific devices are not being found

The OP needs to post some relevant system info. Copy/paste the text output of inxi -Fxxxrz run in the terminal.

Fedora is more bleeding edge than Mint and its Ubuntu base, I suspect you need a newer kernel. But post the info to see.

BTW programs like blueman are for managing a working BT connetion, they aren't meant to solve underlying issues.

There's a definite trend, but so few of you are posting PC hardware specs -- which means the kernel and Bluetooth device-driver developers aren't getting empirical data to look for a pattern among all the reported failures. There may be issues with particular chipsets, but we can't know that without hard data.

Plug in all relevant dongles, accessories, and peripherals. Then ...
  1. Use the Mint menu system to launch System Reports.
  2. Click on System information there. Your system details appear.
  3. At the bottom-right of that window, click on the [Copy] button.
  4. Your clipboard now contains your PC information text. Open a Reply here, then tap Ctrl-V to paste all the text into it.

Your detailed PC specifications can then be reviewed by the Mint, kernel, and Bluetooth system software developers.

Ok, so the problem most probably lies with bluez which is under blueman, since that the main difference between my two partitions.

Like mentioned above, my headset hardware is Sennheiser Momentum M2

I'm willing to help debug this, if any LM devs contact me

This one works (LM 20.3)

 As others have posted, I am now having Bluetooth issues. I can no longer connect my Logitech 300 Bluetooth speaker in Mint Vanessa, neither can I get sound from my Bose Bluetooth headphones. It says they are connected but I get no sound. I will have resort to ear buds now. This needs to be fixed!

Same here, before the update bluetooth amplifier worked fine, but after the update it won't appear in the Sound Settings.
Bluetooth manager seems to work fine (connects easily to the device and so on).

I am with the Pipewire, so this might be the reason why Mint is not picking it up perfectly without some "systemctl commands".

===
I did this, all might not be needed:

Code: Select all

sudo apt install libfdk-aac2 libldacbt-{abr,enc}2 libopenaptx0
sudo apt install libspa-0.2-bluetooth pipewire-audio-client-libraries pipewire-media-session- wireplumber
systemctl --user --now enable wireplumber.service
systemctl --user --now restart wireplumber.service
Remember that volume will be 100% when started! IT MIGHT BE LOUD!

If it works, mark as "solved", if you got help from this.

I have isolated the problem. If you get a notification To update to Clang 13 do not do that.

I happened to notice that it got removed when I did a repair restore boot.

Fully booted, The audio worked again. When I got the notice to update Clang again, I ignored it.

this worked for me. I was not able to connect my realme air 2 headphone with bluetooth. Now after running these commands my headphone is working fine with mint 21.

It turns out that the solution is: sudo systemctl enable --now bluetooth.

EDITED.
Hello there!
For some reason, I couldn't connect my speaker JBL after upgrading to mint 21 thru Bluetooth. I spent several days researching, and I tell you, as simple as the command "sudo systemctl enable --now bluetooth" was executed, voila! Now I'm enjoying my music. Thanks, this made my day.

I too cannot connect with Mint 21, whereas 20.3 and older worked fine. Mint 21 does not see my Nintendo WiiU Pro Controller

BTW: This is duplicated in viewtopic.php?f=52&t=380634&p=2230888#p2230888 This is the older issue

Since this issue has been open for a month, I will rollback to LM 20.3 since bluetooth works fine and wait for the fix.

It turns out that the solution is: sudo systemctl enable --now bluetooth.

EDITED.
Thanks, tried that command and bluetooth manager still would not start?

Is this thread still alive? I'm having a similar problem. Fresh install on a new laptop, LM21, bluetooth manager seems like it's working, but it doesn't detect my bluetooth headphones. I started a new topic here viewtopic.php?f=90&t=384164&p=2248478#p2248478, but being new to these forums I wasn't sure if I should actually be posting here.
