19.3 MATE Install failure incl no Wi-Fi & can’t detect monitor
After ez install of 21 MATE, and determining I need 19.3 - no success attempting to install with 19.3.
Here’s where I’m stuck for over a day
Followed instructions successfully here:
https://linuxmint-installation-guide.re ... en/latest/
Success balenaEtcher FLASH to usb.
Boot from USB success.
Monitor Preferences > Detect monitors - “unknown default”
(Cannot change Resolution etc.)
No Wi-Fi available either. Ethernet required for 19.3?
Install from Desktop short cut attempt - Won’t allow selection of PC.
(I apologize as I can’t get photo file from iPad small enough to share here.)
Install (as superuser)
Installation type
Device Type
1/dev/sda
Device for boot loader installation:
/dev/sda PNY USB 3.2.1 FD (61.9 GB)

Windows 11 & 21MATE is currently bootable from this PC.
I think my goal is uninstall 21 and install 19.3 although the lack of Wi-Fi capability in 19.3 has me stopped cold.
EDIT: 19.3 and an attempt on 20.1 install - neither sees harddrive on this HP i3 Victus.

Re: 19.3 MATE Install failure incl no Wi-Fi & can’t detect monitor
It's not at all clear top me why you need to yank 21 and replace it with 19.3. That machine may not be made in 2022 (BIOSes can be updated for a while so that date can be misleading). But I don't think it's that old.
And your Nvidia card seems to have OK support: https://linux-hardware.org/index.php?id ... -1462-8d92

THANK YOU FOR HELPING
First result
Second result:
What I think I learned yesterday in 5 hours with a Linux buddy and still failed to install 19.3.(And 20.1):
The added security in the Bios, MOK commands - seems to only be an option on a fresh pc.
We learned 19.3 and 20.1 could not see the harddrive in this pc.

There's too many issues with the VRUI Toolkit for 21. I'd much prefer 20 or 21 but until the VRUI is updated, or I find a C++ developer who can fix that, I'm attempting to get 19.3 to work if possible.
Re: 19.3 MATE Install failure incl no Wi-Fi & can’t detect monitor
Disable secure boot in Bios.
Re: 19.3 MATE Install failure incl no Wi-Fi & can’t detect monitor
We tried secure boot disabled and no luck seeing the harddrive.
And MOK option only seemed to appear if the pc started off fresh.
Here's the suggestion for the pc we purchased for this project:
http://doc-ok.org/?topic=current-comput ... ar-sandbox
( There's at least 850 users of this ARS platform, and they lost their original support forum - so that website has the new one. )
Re: 19.3 MATE Install failure incl no Wi-Fi & can’t detect monitor
I would keep secure boot off anyway & also disable Fast Startup in Windows:

We even uninstalled Windows 11.sleeper12 wrote: ⤴Sun Aug 14, 2022 2:05 pmI would keep secure boot off anyway & also disable Fast Startup in Windows:

I really appreciate the help!!
Re: 19.3 MATE Install failure incl no Wi-Fi & can’t detect monitor
Ok, this is over my head then, but you should also disable power management:
Reboot
Code: Select all
sudo sed -i 's/3/2/' /etc/NetworkManager/conf.d/default-wifi-powersave-on.conf
Re: 19.3 MATE Install failure incl no Wi-Fi & can’t detect monitor
I don't know if this is any help, but found this on an HP site:
"Linux Mint not seeing internal hard drive:
I successfully got Linux Mint to see the drive and installed by taking the drive out of the laptop and connecting it via USB to SATA and then placing it back it the laptop. Laptop now boots in less then 15 seconds and now working on transferring my data over."
