Setting up Time Shift and Back in Time on External Device (SOLVED)
I keep a WD 2TB HDD (external) connected to USB on rear of motherboard. While I was setting up BackinTime, I looked in the computer/mnt and saw my other devices, but not the WD device.. Where would it be found?

Re: Setting up Time Shift and Back in Time on External Device
External devices that are automatically mounted when you plug them in should be represented by an icon in the left pane of the file manager, and file dialogs. They are mounted under /media/<your_login>/<specific_name>.

Yea......just found that.....now how do I choose what to save??
Re: Setting up Time Shift and Back in Time on External Device
This depends from what you want to save.
The settings of BackInTime are organized in profiles. 2 settings are mandatory: On the first tab the place, where you want to save.
On the second tab you tell BiT what you want to save, e.g.your complete home, that could be e.g. /home/fubar

What to save - just use the defaults, which is all of home.

Re: Setting up Time Shift and Back in Time on External Device
Your screenshot shows BiT, but the folder you show is the root folder of your system. BiT is made to backup your user data, this would be /home/fubar.
Re: Setting up Time Shift and Back in Time on External Device
So, I excluded the Root files, and chose fubar/home only. Is this correct?
Re: Setting up Time Shift and Back in Time on External Device
No. Exclude home with your account also. Then you are at the default setting (regarding this option), as you can read in the second line of your screenshot.
Re: Setting up Time Shift and Back in Time on External Device
You don't really need to change any of the default settings.

Thanks all for the replies. I think I have confused myself over which settings are which, and that's on me. Can I remove the post and start over with questions on each app individually?
