No experience with WINE, so not much help here. (Sorry Wendy)
But, I will say that Canon Zoom-Browser (which I don't think exists any longer anyway ?) is one of the things I miss most from my windows days, over a decade ago now.

I simply bit the bullet and just use the file browser or PIX.
When downloading new images from the camera I can plug the camera in with a cable, but usually just take the SD card out, plug that into the PC, and copy off the new images to a folder of my choosing.

What was once a BIG thing...loosing Canon zoom-browser...is now not a thing at all.

That's what I do with my two Canons. It's faster, easier, and doesn't run down the camera batteries.

Hello

Thank you for your helpful postings + all you do ...

The software is used by my partner on another computer ...

It is called digital photo professional

My partner looked at darktable but it is very different to digital photo professional ...

I think it would be good to move our other computer onto Linux but the canon software digital photo professional is important to my partner ...

So I was thinking about WINE - has anyone used WINE for anything ?

Any thoughts welcome ...

People have tried several versions of this software on Wine with mixed results
I've nonetheless noticed that linux users nowadays do not report their attempts on the winehq database as often as they did a few years ago.
There's nothing to lose by trying different versions of wine provided that you have the time to spare on experiments.
This program looks like Lightroom for Canon cameras.
Darktable, digiKam, Rapid Photo Downloader are very powerful Linux programs for importing, organizing and editing photos from digital cameras.
Of course a learning curve is involved and your partner has to learn new tricks for the sake of Linux and they might not be willing to.
If you had a strong machine, you could consider running important Windows programs in a VM.

Digital Photo Professional is the software that Canon ships with its digital SLR cameras for editing and asset management of its Canon raw files. It can also work with the older .CRW format of selected models, and also JPEGs and TIFFs from any source.

If you go here -
https://www.canon-europe.com/support/co ... 13-1730475

Enter the model number and the next is Your Operating System. Linux is one of those mentioned.

However trundling through the site and entering my camera model it got to Languages again and no Linux.

It eventually wants a serial number which isn't readable on my camera so this is as far as I can go with checks on WINE.

I typically run screaming from bundled software....
Here's another vote for Darktable.

Darktable - in the Software Manager and it mentions handling RAW

There is also a link to their web site -
https://www.darktable.org/

And what it does -
