Just installed Mint
As I was installing I was doing the update and mostly everything said that it failed. Is there a problem? I am only 14 and my dad installed it for me. And he's wondering how to proceed; Please advise!

Re: Just installed Mint
The errors were that while we were trying to update the computer most of our files said "failed" in red, while the top 10 files or so said something along the lines of "installed", "approved" or "installed" in green. Also it was taking about an hour to load, which i don't know if it's normal because my dad just got me this computer recently.

Speed:
* The Celeron range is a 98 year old granny trying to run a marathon. (98 in technology years).
* Your system display says you have a 28 GB disk drive. Think of moving house using a bicycle with a small basket on the handlebars. Slow.
If you can replace the tiny SSD with 128 GB or add an SSD, you will be miles ahead. You will have space to do anything things. There are 32 GB based machines that are almost always thrown away. There are 64 GB with enough storage for browsing the Web and a default configuration but you will have to clean up the machine every few months. 128 GB is a once per year spring clean.
What applications/software do you plan to use on the machine? This will give us a better idea of what works.

Besides any other issues slowing down the system..thenaegiri wrote: ⤴Sat Nov 26, 2022 4:53 pmCode: Select all

Most likely, CPU needs the thermal paste replaced / internal fan and fins cleaned. A youtube video playing is going to cook the system.

Re: Just installed Mint
It certainly is a low spec CPU.
Yes it will work BUT.
What I've done to lots of computers (as suggested) is fit an SSD (solid state disk) and they are ten times faster than a standard hard disk.
It depends where you are but a 240GB should be about $30US.
Oldest laptop that I've upgraded? A 2008 HP.

Re: Just installed Mint
Is it a second-hand computer? The SSD could be aging and storing data inside could be unsafe. Also
Another factor is the iGPU
System Temperatures: cpu: 77.0 C mobo: 27.8 C
with Fan Speeds (RPM): N/A
looks worrying too. Make sure the CPU fan still spins or the computer cannot run stably.Another factor is the iGPU
Intel HD Graphics 2000
is old and weak too. I see you or maybe your Dad installed Steam into this computer. But this computer can't even support running today's Minecraft. Most games in Steam are probably facing the same fate.Re: Just installed Mint

2013. mSATA storage.
Most notebooks were released with 128 GB back then and many were upgraded. There should be a heap of used 128 Gb mSATA SSDs unused on shelves and in notebooks with broken screens or keyboards.
