How to mount hdd i have tried but it doesnt work can anybody help?

Is this a new bare drive, they need to be formatted first (create a partition table and then add partitions) or an external usb drive? An external drive is usually formatted.
Simplest way is that the partition(s) on the drive should show up under 'devices' in your file manager, click to mount them. If an internal drive a file called fstab can be edited to mount the drive on boot.
