Mint 21 Cinnamon crashing on print-screen

Post by Fizz »

Hi all-

I am running Mint 21.0 Cinnamon. Since the update from Mint 20, i have noticed different behavior in full-screen mode than with Mint 20. Most notably, when i'm in full-screen mode (a game for example) and hit alt-printscreen, i see a quick flash like it did something. When i alt-tab to save the image, i have an error on the screen that says:

Cinnamon just crashed
You are current running in fallback mode.
If you suspect the source of the crash is a local extension, applet or desklet, you can disable downloaded add-ons use the checkbox below. Do you want to restart Cinnamon?

If i say Yes, then it recovers fine. But another screengrab will do the same thing. The actual screengrab sometimes works, sometimes not. When it doesn't, it's like it takes the screenshot but then pollutes it with partial images of windows from different workspaces. This seems to occur in every full-screen application. It never happened in Mint 20.

Any ideas as to how to fix it? Thanks in advance!

-Fizz

I suspect yes. I am almost never in full-screen mode. When Zoom does that I immediately exit that mode.
Plus I am on LM 20.3.

I just went to full-screen mode and hit alt-printscreen. It worked perfectly.

Hi Mike – you’re not the only one.

Hi fizz.

Is that a current inxi?

Code: Select all

System:
... Desktop: Cinnamon 5.2.7 wm: muffin dm: LightDM Distro: Linux Mint 20.3 Una
  base: Ubuntu 20.04 focal ...
If it is current, then the only things that cause me concern are;

Code: Select all

 Uptime: 41d 8h 54m Memory: 30.75 GiB used: 28.29 GiB (92.0%) ...
At the very least, I’d reboot and see if the problem is still there.

Argh, dang and blast, i accidentally pasted the wrong inxi. I have updated it to the current one.

I have rebooted but the problem still exists. It seems to occur regardless of application; anything under full screen will cause the crash with an alt-prtscn.

Yes, it works for me under Mint 20 as well. This issue new to Mint 21 it seems.

Anyone have any other thoughts on this? Is there a crash log for Cinnamon somewhere so i can try to figure out what's causing it?

Again- i never had an issue under Mint 20. This only started under Mint 21. Full screen behavior is different in other ways too, but the crash is certainly the worst part. I haven't changed anything about the system other than the 20 to 21 upgrade.
