How to add desktop folders in Linux mint like windows?

Open nemo/caja/thunar.
right-click the folder you want to link to desktop.
Select make link.
Drag the new link you've made to the desktop.

This is simpler than windows where the option is down the menu.
To change a folder's name, if one has been given, click on the folder (to hi-light it) and then F2, which then allows editing the name.
