How to add desktop folders in Linux mint like windows?

Open nemo/caja/thunar.
right-click the folder you want to link to desktop.
Select make link.

Drag the new link you've made to the desktop.

Simply right click on the desktop and a menu appears. "Create New Folder" is the first item, top of the menu.
This is simpler than windows where the option is down the menu.

To change a folder's name, if one has been given, click on the folder (to hi-light it) and then F2, which then allows editing the name.
