Helena KDE install No DVD player, only CD-ROM

Me again: really slow learning noobie.
I like Linux Mint and will probably stay with it instead of upgrading my Windows XP to Windows 7 or whatever is next. Assuming I can be more Linux Literate.
Am trying to become somewhat literate with Linux Mint Helena and would like to "upgrade" to the KDE version.
Problem: the iso is 1 Gig which, obviously, requires a DVD.
My computer has a cd drive that will not accept the iso DVD. (Burned it from another newer computer and the MD5 is verified).
This cd drive does accept the cd-rom iso of Helena and will play DVD's on my Windows XP with a DVD player program.
My 320 G hard drive is partitioned into Windows XP and Linux Mint Helena with a dual boot.
I have a 1 TB Verbatum external hard drive.
How do I download and install Linux Mint Helena KDE?
Please remember I'm a Linux noobie, and please try to keep it really simple for me.
Thank you in advance for the assistance.
Dick
