I am looking into a 2CD version with Mint miniKDE.
1 CD as a miniKDE version
1 CD extras repo CD to install all the extras to make the full.

the first mini CD may be very light on apps.

I'm not a developer so take this suggestion with a grain of salt.

But can't there just be a BASE cd, and a cd filled with common apt-get materials.

Warm me if this is dangerious, but when I install mint on multiple computers, there usually is so much downloading going on, I connect 1 to the internet, then just copy the /var/cache/apt/archives folder on to the others. How about a simple scirpt that can be run from the cd and adds the needed files to your /var/cache/apt/archvies folder. Does everything really need an automatic update on cd inser and all that jazz? I'm just looking to have a usable system thats off line. Maybe a list on the CD that suggest commands to type to install.
Like:
Song Bird Music Player - sudo apt-get install songbird
MP3 Tag Automator PICARD - sudo apt-get install picard libtunepimp5
Quake style terminal - sudo apt-get yakuake


Or even better, modify the installer so that the last thing it does eject the BASE cd then, if an EXTRAS cd is detected, it will run a preformed script (very customizable) and it will have only the directory /var/cache/apt and will add its files to it. Obviously, one might still need to be connected to the internet, but the downloading would be much better done overnight.

Not everyone has a constant connection. It seems linux requires broadband. Windows does not, and even most software has install cds, where you can have a complete system with apps without internet.

Maybe I'm loosing it, cause I don't want a 4 DVD collection of the repos either.
