Ctrl-Alt-Del vs. Full Restart

Post by sam500 »

I'm slightly confused by the the usefulness of Ctrl-Alt-Del. My wireless is intermittently dropping out and instead of going to another room to restart the wireless box, I thought I would use this feature (unique to Mint?) to reset my connection.

However, a quick ctrl-alt-delete reboot didn't seem to have any effect and I had to re-start fully to get my connection back again.

I'd kind of like to know why I'm losing my wireless connection as well but that's probably a question for another forum.

Konnitti Wa! Ogenki desu ka?

I ran across this thread yesterday. http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=53&t=43820

It seems like a few others have had this problem. I have noticed that my airport has had some issues the last year or two ---cuts out and it seems to have something to do with the cable provider and i assume but cannot verify maybe a dynamic address issue. I have read others dealing with this issue and a tech guy I talked to last year mentioned this. I have to unplug and plug back in the airport and all seems well. Frustrating for me because the airport is upstairs in my office. This affects the linux laptop and the 4 mac laptops and my duaghter's ipod, etc. So this doesn't seem to be 100% endemic to gnu linux. There probably is an issue with the gnu linux software though too or the original Ubuntu dynamic which Mint is based off of. I also cannot speak directly to that element.

Lastly I noticed that the problem or non-problem seems to go in random events. or semi-random - Issues appear a bit more frequently, and then I am surprised when it seems to work flawlessly. These are just observations and experiences too!

GrayWizard konnichi wa, thanks for the response and also for the link to the wireless thread. Actually, my connection has been alright recently. I guess it could be a whole host of possible reasons. I'll leave it for the moment but I will refer to that thread next time :)
