No to both questions. You cannot downgrade any release other than re-installing the earlier version, and elyssa is end of life as of this month.

Is there a particular reason why you want to use Elyssa? If you're just looking for a LTS release, keep in mind that Mint 9 Isadora LTS is coming next month.

If you happen to have a system backup from when you were using Elyssa, you can use that.
The only other way I can recommend is doing a fresh install of Elyssa.

It is possible to switch to the old Elyssa sources.list and run ' apt-get dist-upgrade', but you will almost definitely end up with many broken packages and probably a broken system.
