What exactly do you mean?

Thunderbird is an email client for reading&sending emails. Any kind of emails. Wheather you have a different client at work (such as outlook) is not really important.

But it is important, to know your email account settings, such as server (for example imap.google.com), password, email address and maybe port (if needed).

If however you would like to have a similar experience to Outlook then you should use Evolution which is kind of Linux version of Outlook. It can even synchronise with Outlook, though i read some people have problem sometimes. Thunderbird is very good too! If you already have Linux installed try to set the email acocunt through thunderbird. If you are on Win or Mac, you can also donwload it, install it there and try to see if it works (and how it look slike if you never used it before)

Thunderbird (like Firefox) has it's origin in Netscape. Although the latest version really is a big change.
