Uninstall programs from Gloria (Xfce)

Post by jaqian »

I installed Gloria/Xfce on a friends computer but I cannot see how to uninstall some programs. I use Isadora/Gnome myself and can easily right-click on the item in the menu to unistall but in Xfce this just launches the application.

Help Please.

You can use Synaptic Package Manager, find the app, click the little box, and 'Mark for removal'

or use Mint's easy button from the terminal :

Code: Select all

apt remove program_name

Using synaptic is the easiest way... Mark the package for removal and apply. Marking for complete removal will remove all the stored application data as well.

Using the terminal

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get autoremove package-name
this will remove the package and any dependencies that are unused by any other packages

If you are unsure of the name of the package

Code: Select all

apt-cache search program-name
This will list all the packages that have names or descriptions matching the program. This way you can find the exact package name and apt-get autoremove it
