Mint5 clean install, update kills

Post by gunny »

I installed mint5 since 9 was not detecting ny monitor accurately and lagging. Initial install worked great, but after updating, It won't load after the login. It just reboots after I enter login and password.
I can get into Gnome recovery mode, but I don't know how to fix it from there.
Also, it messed up my boot configuration, so I can't boot a disc.
Plus no internet access as things are.
it's got an amd 3000+, Radeon Xpress 200, 160GB, 512 ddr ram.

Any help?

To boot a disc, you would have to change your setting in your Bios
Your computer should say which button to press to enter Bios setup when booting up
Something like [Del] or [F10].
Then you can change to Boot Sequence by moving your CD/DVD drive to the top...

Ya, it`s set up that way, but screen tells me
`No System!`
(Enter)=boot from hard disk
(Space)+retry . . . which just goes back to same thing.

Have you tried different disc? Like Mint9 instead...

Fixed bc I copied over the grub & bin files etc. from the installation disc. Installing mint7 back.
