[SOLVED] MS office and open office

can I open MS office and MS word documents with open office , and vice versa?

yes you can but for me, when opening in open office, my docs created in ms office always get messed up so i use wine to install ms office instead.

If you stick to using .doc format (office 97-2003 format), OO.org should read all files almost 100% accurate. Since Microsoft Office 2010 was released, Office 2010 support OpenDocument format native, .odt etc will open natively. When it comes to OO.org compatibility with .docx, I have no idea, probably not too great yet, avoid if possible. :roll:

I don't know if Office 2010 really supports ODF yet. 2007 SP2 included support for it, but in typical MS fashion they chose to "adjust" the standard a little.

I use Office 2010 for work and yes, it does support ODF format now, not just in compatibility mode. And no, I do not work for M$. :twisted:
