Firefox.desktop file

Postby scubalowe » Sun Mar 06, 2011 11:26 pm

I installed Linux Mint 10 a week ago and have deleted the firefox.desktop file by accident. Where can I get it and how do I reinstall? Thanks! Steve :)

That icon is what we call a " short-cut " .
The direct way to launch Firefox or any application , is to click on your Menu button , go to Application. Find Internet > Firefox.
Here you can either directly launch Firefox , or by right-clicking you can create a shortcut either in Desktop or Panel.

Alternatively, download the firefox .deb package directly from and extract usr/share/applications/firefox.desktop from the deb (it's nothing more than an .ar archive), or even easier:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install --reinstall firefox

Edit: Just to make sure I didn't misunderstand...are you missing the system-wide Firefox .desktop in /usr/share/applications, or just an user-created .desktop which you dumped on your Desktop and accidentally deleted? If it's the latter, just make a copy of /usr/share/applications/firefox.desktop and then you're done.
