How am I supposed to tell what type it is if the store website doesn't mention the DDR part?

PC2700 is always DDR. The 2700 refers to the speed of the memory.

DDR2 speeds are listed as PC2-xxxx, i.e. PC2-5300, and DDR3 is listed as PC3-xxxx, i.e. PC3-8500

But my link says 333MHz is the speed. Are you sure 2700 is memory speed too? So there are two memory speeds?

There are:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DDR2_SDRAM
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DDR3_SDRAM
But those refer to desktop memory. DDR SODIMM is about laptop memory.

The 333 is MT/s, not MHz. PC2700 has a data rate of 333MT/s and a peak transfer rate of 2666⅔MB/s.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SO-DIMM - note how the article refers to DDR, DDR2 *and* DDR3
