I am very new to Linux and my Wireless Network Card won't connect to the internet. It has official Linux driver support with included instruction but i can't seem to get it to work (plus the instructions are pretty bad). Hopefully one of you guys could get me.
Details:
Card:
Edimax EW-7711Usn

OS: Linux Mint 11
Just ask if you want any more details.
Thanks.

You can have a look at this blog post, which explains the steps in detail: http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/linux-ins ... apter.html
You can use the source file you can download from the EDIMAX website, for which you shared the link.

Re: Need help with Wireless Network Card!
Ok i have read through it, but how do i install the usb.ids without internet? There is no possibility of using a wired connection and i can only get it in a .txt format on windows (will that work?).
Thanks.
Thanks.
Re: Need help with Wireless Network Card!
Should work. Copy the file to Linux, and rename to file to usb.ids (no .txt part). Run "vi usb.ids" in the terminal where you have the file, and MAKE SURE the lines do no end in ^M characters, that would mean Windows has messed up your file. You will need to run dos2unix command to fix that, which is not installed by default. If the ^M characters are there, get the file from somebody else who runs Linux.
Edit: Then copy the file to where the wget command would have put it.

Re: Need help with Wireless Network Card!
Yes i got it to work. Though now another problem has arose and also an existing one that i didn't notice before. The one that just arose is that now my Win 7 OS won't detect the internet and the other one is that my Sound Card won't play any sound (i know it's a realtek but i don't know how to check which one on linux).
Thanks.
Thanks.
Re: Need help with Wireless Network Card!
Good work getting wireless to work on Linux! I'm very doubtful this being in any way the cause with problems on Windows, but can not help you with that platform.
Please put the output of command "sudo lspci -v" here, there will be a section "Audio device" in there that will show your sound chip (you only need to put that part here).

Re: Need help with Wireless Network Card!
Hi, I think you should mark this post as [SOLVED] (edit original post, add that to the title).
Below is the relevant part for your audio problems. If you Google "SBx00 Azalia" you get a lot of hits with people having issues with that on Linux, and what they did to resolve it. If you can not fix it, make a new post for this.
