Gnome mouse movement is horrible!

Post by Pikendo16 »

My first topic here...

I have just installed Linux Mint 11 Using Mint4Win.
First the disk (CD) I used to install was not compatible with this computers cd drive. (I mean I got "Disk error" when booting from the cd.)
It was CD-RW so I reburned it and then it worked.
But before that I made LM11 USB stick with UNetBootIn.
Tried to install with that but,
A) It was usable, but mouse movement was weird and choppy, jumpy.
B) When installing it "beside Windows XP" I got some error (Don't remember what)

Then I used Mint4Win on the CD that I mentioned already, It worked somehow but before the M4W started I got like 10 windows warnings "No disk".

Now I'm using my LM11 but the mouse movement is still same as I mentioned up there in A).

I have tried "gnome (no effects)"
but no.

Also tried to install "mint-meta-xfce" using "sudo apt-get install", but it said Package not found or something.

Oh, and the problem is same with Ubuntu too!
It got a tiny bit better when I installed something like "additional ati/amd driver" when lm asked me.

I'm not sure if this has been already asked or this isn't a right place for this question/problem, but I hope this is ok.

Graphics card: ATI Radeon HD Sapphire 2600 pro

To analyze the cause, can you perhaps try this with a different mouse? Just to exclude it being an issue with this specific mouse and this Linux installation.

Out of interest, why on earth would you want to install XFCE on top of Mint 11? If you want XFCE then you would be much better placed downloading and installing XFCE itself.

As for the mouse - the only problem I have had or heard of with jerkiness have been with openSUSE. I assume that the mouse works perfectly in your Windows installation, so the hardware itself must be OK, but it would be interesting to know what mouse it is, just in case it has some kind of specialist drivers in Windows which might be causing it to be incorrectly interpreted by Mint.
