Latest Firefox causing Gmail and Twitter to misbehave

Post by brianolee »

I am using Mint 10 (Julia) on a Dell Laptop.

I wanted to have the latest firefox, so I did

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mozillateam/firefox-stable

I am getting the latest firefox (today it upgraded to firefox 7.0).
However, Gmail still tels me that my browser is too old, and dsoes not load properly.
I have to use nocheckbrowser in the URL.

Also, Twitter loads exactly 20 tweets and stops.
What's going on?

Twitter just works fine here on Firefox 6.0.2. Make sure Javascript is enabled at you. I don't use Gmail.

By the way, I can't use the PPA as it is for Mint 9 and 10 only, and there's Mint 11 and/or Windows on all computers here. So I'm using Firefox from the default repository which is stuck at 6.0.2 atm.

Javascript is enabled under Edit | Preferences | Content.

I use noscript, but Google.com is allowed.
Twitter.com and twimg.com are also allowed.

Does Twitter or Gmail work when disabling NoScript?

You may need to allow *.google.com instead of just google.com to get javascript working in the mail. You may also need *.twitter.com too.

Google, which includes Gmail and YouTube, has been making a lot of changes recently, so it's just a transitional thing at the moment. I've encounter minor annoyances on their sites with FF 6.2, FF 3.6.23, and the latest Chrome. It'll clear up soon.
